Hannah has had a varied career having worked within the fields of health visiting, diabetes, and heart failure. She started her career in diabetes research and went on to specialize in this area, initiating the first Diabetes Specialist Nurse role in her health authority. Following a career break, she returned to research, but this time focusing on heart failure. This role led to their appointment as a Heart Failure Specialist Nurse, a role she maintained until she took up an opportunity to pursue a clinical Ph.D. Fellowship funded by the British Heart Foundation. She gained her MSc in Health Service Research in 2007 and for many years, she worked part-time as a lecturer at the University of Nottingham on the graduate entry medical course before joining the national charity Education for Health as their Cardiovascular Education Lead from 2011 to 2019. This role included developing and maintaining a variety of modules and short courses in cardiovascular topics and providing academic support to students.

She is a past president of the British Association for Nursing in Cardiovascular Care and is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology. Her contribution to education has been recognized through her acceptance as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
