Hailiang is a research fellow in ATGU and the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, advised by Dr. Mark Daly. His general interest is in developing statistical and analytical methods for understanding the genetics underlying human diseases.

His current projects involve fine-mapping of genetic loci associated with the inflammatory bowl diseases, developing methods for testing rare variants with population stratification, and understanding the genetic mechanisms underlying the spontaneous clearance of the hepatitis C virus. He obtained his Ph.D. degree (advised by Dr. Joel Bader and Dr. Dan Arking) from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 2012.
