Haidong Wang, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Health Metric Sciences at the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington. A specialist in demography, Dr. Wang works on mortality estimation and projection for IHME’s landmark Global Burden of Disease study (GBD) and leads the Demographics: Mortality and Population work group. He also leads the demography team at the University of Washington Center for Health Trends and Forecasts, which is housed at IHME.

Before joining the faculty at IHME, Dr. Wang was an IHME Post-Graduate Fellow. He received his PhD in Demography from the Population Studies Center at the University of Pennsylvania. At Penn, he worked on a variety of projects focused on mortality estimation and projections, including sex mortality differentials in the United States, forecasting adult mortality using cohort smoking histories, and the interrelationship between physical activity and cognitive function among the elderly. He earned his MA in Economics, a BA in Economics, and a BA in Sociology from Peking University.
