Homer Franklin Herlong MD

Dr. Franklin Herlong, M.D., is a Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He specializes in gastroenterology.

Dr. Herlong earned his medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed both his residency in internal medicine and fellowship in gastroenterology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in gastroenterology, he joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2018. Prior to that, he served on the faculty at the University of South Carolina, the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

At Johns Hopkins, Dr. Herlong held progressive administrative roles, culminating in more than five years of service as Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and nearly 10 years as Associate Dean of Student Affairs.

Dr. Herlong is a member of the American Liver Foundation and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. He has published numerous academic articles related to his areas of expertise. He has been listed as the Best Doctor in America since 2009.
