Gunter Mayer, born in Munich in 1972, studied chemistry at the Ludwig Maximilian University and received his doctorate in Bonn. After working for a start-up company in Munich, he was a group leader at the LIMES Institute at the University of Bonn. He then taught at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow and in 2010 accepted a professorship for Chemical Biology & Chemical Genetics at the University of Bonn. In 2017, Mayer founded the “Center of Aptamer Research & Development” at the University of Bonn. In 2019, he co-founded the start-up “Clickmer Systems,” which won a prize at BioRiver Boost 2017. In 2013, he received an ERC Consolidator Grant and, together with other scientists, took first place in the “ZukunftErfinden NRW” competition in 2015. Mayer has been a transfer officer at the University of Bonn since 2018.
