Guilherme Barreiro, MD, Ph.D., is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who focuses on microvascular and complex reconstructive surgery. Dr. Barreiro graduated from the State University of Campinas Medical School in Campinas, SP, Brazil, where he also completed his General Surgery Residency. He then went on to complete his Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery residency and Microsurgery fellowship at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. During that time, he also earned a Ph.D. in Surgical Sciences by developing alternative flap options for complex head and neck reconstruction.

Dr. Barreiro also completed seven post-residency fellowships. These included International experiences at centers of excellence in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Belgium, and Germany. His expertise encompasses Complex Reconstructive Surgery, Lymphatic, and Perforator-Based Supermicrosurgery. He is experienced in trauma, burns, congenital, and oncologic reconstructive surgery for trunk, breast, head, neck, and extremity reconstruction. He is worldly renown in the field of reconstructive microsurgery and has been invited to speak in several national and international meetings and as a visiting professor at several prestigious academic institutions in the U.S. and Brazil.

Prior to coming to Oklahoma, Dr. Barreiro was a professor, program director, and Chief of Complex Reconstructive Surgery at one of the most prestigious universities in Brazil for many years. He was also a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Barreiro is also a dedicated educator and researcher. He is directly involved in training residents, medical student education, and developing research in the field to advance patient care.
