Dr. Guansheng Ma is a professor of nutrition, and the chief of the Department of Nutrition and Food Hygiene, School of Public Health, Peking University. He was the Deputy Director of the National Institute for Nutrition and Food Safety, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention during 2002-2015. Dr. Ma’s scientific interests are in the areas of food and nutrition policy, nutrition and health, NCDs control and prevention, particularly in the childhood obesity intervention. Dr. Guansheng Ma started to study medicine in Shandong Medical University during 1981-1986, and then finished his master degree training in public health nutrition in Shanghai Medical University during 1986-1989. He obtained his Ph.D at the Division of Human Nutrition, Wageningen University, the Netherlands in 2007.
Dr. Ma sought advanced study on health education and health promotion at the School of Public Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA during 1992-1993. He finished his fellowship training on behavior and health in the Department of Social Medicine, Harvard Medical School, USA, during 1997-1998.
Dr. Ma worked for United Nations Office for Humanitarian Co-ordination in Iraq for three months for evaluating the Oil-for-food program in 1998. He has obtained plenty experience of poverty alleviation when he worked as the governor assistant in A-ba Zang and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan, China during 2003-2004. He worked in the Department of Food Safety and Zoonose.
