Gretchen Kimmick MD, MS

Gretchen Kimmick, MD, MS, is a Professor of Medicine at the Duke Cancer Institute and an internationally recognized expert in breast cancer and geriatric oncology. Her clinical and research interests focus on breast cancer treatment, survivorship care, supportive oncology, endocrine therapy, and improving cancer outcomes for older and underserved patient populations.

Dr. Kimmick earned her Doctor of Medicine and Master of Science degrees from Wake Forest University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Florida and subsequently completed fellowship training in Oncology at North Carolina Baptist Hospital.

Throughout her career at Duke, Dr. Kimmick has held several leadership positions, including Clinical Operations Leader for Breast Medical Oncology and Director of Outpatient Medical Practice Operations. She has played an important role in advancing patient-centered cancer care, survivorship programs, and multidisciplinary oncology services.

Dr. Kimmick’s research has contributed significantly to the fields of metastatic breast cancer, geriatric oncology, endocrine therapy, CDK4/6 inhibitors, PARP inhibitor therapy, and supportive care interventions. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and remains actively involved in improving clinical trial participation and quality of care for older adults with cancer.

As both a physician and breast cancer survivor, Dr. Kimmick brings a unique and compassionate perspective to oncology care, with a strong commitment to patient advocacy, survivorship, and innovation in cancer treatment.
