Dr. Gregory R.D. Evans, chief of UCI’s Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery Institute, was recently elected president of the ASPS, the nation’s largest organization of board certified plastic surgeons.
The one-year appointment became official during the society’s annual scientific meeting in New Orleans, October 26-30, 2012.“I am very honored to be elected President of the ASPS, said Dr. Evans. “It is a great responsibility for our members and I trust I can continue the great job that previous presidents have done.
Dr. Evans has been an ASPS member for 19 years, working in a variety of different positions. He has served on several committees, and was previously the Vice President of education for The Plastic Surgery Foundation. “I’m very familiar with how the organization functions and what we want to provide to its members,” he says. “My focus as president will be to continue providing members a great benefit and value.”
Dr. Evans’ appointment comes during a period that is both exciting and challenging for plastic surgeons. American plastic surgeons today are facing the economic challenges of their country, scope of practice issues, and changes within the health care system that could affect patient care. Despite these challenges, Dr. Evans is optimistic and excited about the future of plastic surgery.
