Gregory J. Gores, M.D., is executive dean for research at Mayo Clinic and is responsible for leading and managing all of Mayo’s research activities. He also serves as chair of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and holds the academic rank of professor of physiology and medicine.

He is recognized with the distinction of a named professorship, the Reuben R. Eisenberg Professorship. A native of North Dakota, Dr. Gores received his undergraduate (Phi Beta Kappa) and M.D. (Alpha Omega Alpha) degrees from the University of North Dakota.

He completed a fellowship in internal medicine and gastroenterology at Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Medicine. During his gastroenterology fellowship, he was a National Institutes of Health (NIH) fellow in the laboratory of Nicholas F. LaRusso, M.D. Before assuming a faculty position at Mayo in 1988, he was a Mayo Foundation Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the laboratory of John J. LeMasters, PhD, MD.
