Dr. Greg Borschel has been a full-time staff surgeon at SickKids since 2009. His practice focuses on the care of children with nerve injuries, as well as hand surgery and microsurgery. Borschel is a co-director of the Facial Palsy Clinic with Dr. Ronald Zuker. He is also a co-director of the Nerve Injury Clinic in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Borschel completed medical school at The Johns Hopkins University before training in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Michigan, graduating in 2005. During his residency in Ann Arbor he completed a research fellowship in neuromuscular tissue engineering. Following residency he completed a fellowship in paediatric plastic and reconstructive surgery at SickKids. He then accepted a position in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis and was recruited back to SickKids in 2009.

Borschel is an assistant professor in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto and an associate member of the Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto. He is an associate scientist in the SickKids Research Institute with an appointment in the Physiology & Experimental Medicine Program. Borschel is also an assistant professor in the Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto.

Borschel’s laboratory is focused on nerve regeneration and ways to improve functional outcomes following peripheral nerve injury. The group has strong collaborations in the Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering at University of Toronto, as well as abroad. The group is using growth factors, stem cells, advanced biomaterials and novel surgical paradigms to improve nerve regeneration.
