David Grahame Hardie FRS, FRSE, FMedSci

Professor Grahame Hardie, of the Division of Cell Signalling and Immunology, has been awarded a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator Award for his research into 'Non-canonical pathways for regulation of AMPK'. The Award of over £1.2 million will pay for his research over 5 years including salaries for 3 post-doctoral researchers. Professor Hardie came to Dundee in 1976 to work as a postdoctoral fellow. He was appointed Professor of Cellular Signalling in 1994. His laboratory originally discovered the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) system and established its physiological role as a sensor of cellular energy status. He is the recipient of many of the top prizes and awards in Molecular Biochemistry including the Luft Award 2008 and the Novartis Medal 2010. Professor Hardie is a Fellow of the Royal Society, the Academy of Medical Sciences, and the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
