Graeme Washer is a specialist General Surgeon with a major interest in abdominal and particularly colorectal disease, who has joined the gynaecologists at the Endometriosis Centre at Ascot to assist with those patients who have severe endometriosis involving the colon and rectum. His experience has shown that careful evaluation and management of bowel symptoms prior to surgery has helped to improve surgical outcomes and improve quality of life for these more severely affected women.

A graduate of Otago Medical School, he qualified MB ChB in 1972 and specialist qualification in surgery, Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 1978. He was Chief Surgical Registrar and later Surgical Tutor Specialist at Auckland Hospital before spending postgraduate years in Canada, the United States and Britain, studying cancer surgery, advanced abdominal procedures and endoscopic examination of the gastrointestinal tract by gastroscopy and colonoscopy.

He established his private practice in Auckland in 1984 and is on the staff of Endoscopy Auckland and Ascot Integrated Hospital. He has trained with the gynaecologists at the Endometriosis Centre under David Redwine, in Oregon USA learning techniques including the laparoscopic approach to severe endometriosis involving the colon and rectum.
