Goli Ardestani is a clinical Research Embryologist at the Boston IVF. Goli received her bachelor’s degree from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran, majoring in Animal Sciences. She obtained her Master’s degree in Genetics from the University of the Philippines, Los Baños, studying the genetic diversity of native fishes of the Philippines. Goli’s research in the Fissore lab focuses on understanding the mechanism of Ca2+ influx in oocytes and eggs. Ca2+ influx from the external media is required to fill the intracellular Ca2+ stores. Increased Ca2+ store content is important for protein synthesis, oocyte maturation, and Ca2+ release from intracellular stores required for successful egg activation after fertilization. Goli’s main emphasis is on identifying the specific channels responsible for divalent cations entry, specifically Ca2+ influx, in mature and immature mouse oocytes as well as during embryo development.
