Godwin O. Mbagwu BS, PhD

Dr. Godwin O. Mbagwu is the Director of the Center for Biophotonics and Biodevices (CBAB); and SCHEV Distinguished Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Physics. He graduated from the University of Nigeria with a B.S in Chemistry and went on to study Organic Chemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he received a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. He has served as a Visiting Scientist at Harvard University Medical School and the Massachusetts General Hospital. His research interests include the development of laser-enhanced antitumor and antimicrobial agents, biochemical sensors, nanosized optical and magnetic molecular recognition systems for tumor-targeted imaging, diagnostics, and therapy or for the detection, capture and separation of selected fission product cations (alkali and alkali earth), and other radionuclides found in the waste as part of waste-clean up and environmental-restoration efforts.
