Dr. Glenn T. Furuta is an internationally recognized pediatric gastroenterologist, physician-scientist, and educator specializing in eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases (EGIDs). He serves as Director of the Digestive Health Institute and the Gastrointestinal Eosinophilic Diseases Program at Children's Hospital Colorado and is a Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Dr. Furuta earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency training at Baylor before pursuing fellowship training in pediatric gastroenterology through the Children’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School program.

A pioneer in the field of eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders, Dr. Furuta has dedicated his career to advancing the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of conditions such as eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), eosinophilic gastritis, eosinophilic gastroenteritis, and eosinophilic colitis. His research focuses on the mechanisms of gastrointestinal inflammation, the role of eosinophils in digestive disease, and the development of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for patients with EGIDs. His work has been supported by the National Institutes of Health and has contributed significantly to international consensus guidelines and standards of care.

Throughout his career, Dr. Furuta has helped establish multidisciplinary models of care that integrate gastroenterology, allergy, nutrition, psychology, and other specialties to improve outcomes for children with complex digestive disorders. He has also led the development of innovative diagnostic tools, including minimally invasive techniques for monitoring eosinophilic esophagitis, helping transform care for patients worldwide.
