Glaucia Paranhos-Baccala is the Research Director at the Emerging Pathogens Laboratory (LPE) in Lyon and the Christophe Merieux laboratory (CML) in Beijing of Fondation Merieux. Her team is interested in the identification and the characterization of the emergent and re-emergent pathogens. The research program began with the identification of viruses and bacteria responsible for severe respiratory syndromes of hospitalized young children and immunosuppressed adults.

Glaucia Paranhos-Baccala graduated from Sao Paulo University, Brazil (Biomedicine, 1981), received her PhD (Immunology, 1986 and Molecular Biology, 1989) at the University of Sao Paulo and postdoctoral training at Pasteur Institute, Paris. She worked as Assistant Professor at the Medicine School, Sao Paulo University, Brazil for the Tropical Medicine Department (1986-1991). She joined bioMerieux in 1990, where she was in charge of a scientific research program on Chagas disease in collaboration with Brazilian scientists.
