Prof Giovanni Alei was born on 13 January 1945 in Rome. After obtaining the high school diploma, he enrolled in the Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery at the "La Sapienza" University of Rome. He graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Rome, 24 July 1972, with a grade of 110/110 cum laude. In July 1975 he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Urology at the School of Specialization, directed by Prof. U. Bracci, of the University of Rome. In July 1981 he obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in General Surgery at the School of Specialization, directed by Prof. P. Biocca, of the University of Rome.
Since 1985 he is an Andrologist expert of the Ecclesiastical Court of the Papal States, Vicariate of Rome. In 1986 he obtained the National Qualification in Primary Urologist. In October 1989 he obtained the Diploma of Specialization in Andrology with honors from the School of Specialization of Andrology, directed by Prof. F. Menchini Fabris, of the University of Pisa. In 1991 he successfully passed the second round of judgments of suitability as professor of role, band of associates (grouping 112) classification of Urology.
He has been Tutor for Rome and Latium of the “Virtus” National Training Project for Urologists for Virtual Surgery for the implantation of tricomponent penile prostheses. From the academic year, 2010-11 to the academic year 2013-14 he was Director of the 2nd level University Master in "Surgical Andrology: strategies, surgical techniques, and forensic problems" at the Sapienza University of Rome. From 2014 to present he is a director of the Master in Male Genital Surgery of the Italian Society of Male Genital Surgery.
