Giovanna Scapin PhD

Giovanna Scapin joined NIS in March 2020, after gaining extensive industrial experience in the field of protein structures and structure-guided drug discovery at Merck & Co. An accomplished crystallographer, in 2016 she joined, as an embedded scientist, the New York Structural Biology Center – Simons Electron Microscopy Center, to learn cryoEM. Upon her return to Merck in 2018 she played a pivotal role in establishing the new cryoEM facility within the Merck Research Laboratories and promoting the use of cryoEM for drug discovery. Giovanna received a BS in organic chemistry and a Ph.D. in X-ray protein crystallography from Padua University (Italy).
