Gino Gerosa is Professor of Cardiac Surgery at the University of Padua Medical School. He is currently Chief of the Cardiac Surgery Unit at Padua University Hospital and Director of the Heart Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support Programme. His fields of interest are: tissue engineering and regenerative medicine; ventricular assist devices; robotic surgery; surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation; beating heart surgery; homograft and autograft and follow-up of patients with heart valve prostheses. Professor Gerosa performed the first Italian robot enhanced coronary bypass on a beating heart in 2001 and one of the first worldwide stem cell transplantation for post-ischemic cardiomyopathy in 2002. He also performed the first Italian implantation of the Cardiowest TAH in 2007. He is a member of the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery, EACTS and AATS. He is co-author of more than 250 publications and Editor in Chief of JHVD.
