Ghassan Maalouf is a Professor of Clinical Orthopedic Surgery and the Chairman of the Musculoskeletal Department as well as the Medical Director and Vice-President Medical Affairs at Bellevue Medical Center, a general teaching hospital a teaching hospital accredited by the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health, awarded the prestigious Joint Commission International (JCI) Gold Seal, and certified gold by Planetree for its person-centered achievements. Dr. Maalouf is the founder of the Lebanese Osteoporosis Prevention Society (LOPS). He is also the founder of the Pan Arab Osteoporosis Prevention Society (PAOS), and the founder of Lebanese Osteoporosis Prevention Society and Fragility Fractures Society (FFN LOPS).

With over 250 published articles, the main concern of Dr. Maalouf is to Fight Osteoporosis and to focus on the problem of Fragility Fractures. He is the International Ambassador of the Governance Board of the Bone and Joint Decade (BJD).

In June 2006, he received the first IOF- Presidential award for his achievements and research done in the field of osteoporosis, with JOPS, he was instrumental in the nomination of Queen Rania as IOF Patron and in the creation of 206 bone fund with the late Prof. Pierre Delmas, and they raised one million dollars for IOF. He was awarded the honorary membership of SOFCOT.

For the past ten years, he was able to organize a yearly scientific meeting in Lebanon and ongoing awareness of musculoskeletal diseases. Lebanon has the highest public awareness of osteoporosis in the world due to FFN LOPS activities, (IPSOS/IOF study).
