Gesine Hansenis Medical Director of the Center for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine of the Hannover Medical School. After studying human medicine at the Ruhr-University-Bochum and the Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School London, she completed her specialist training as pediatrician from 1992 to 1997 at the University of Dusseldorf. 1997-1999 was followed by a DFG scholarship research stay at Stanford University at the Institute of Immunology and Transplantation Medicine.

Here she laid the foundations for her immunologically based allergy research, which she continued to pursue at the Martin Luther University as head of a BMBF junior research group. Clinically, she led the Department of Pediatric Pulmonology and Allergology of the University Children's Hospital as Senior Physician and C3 Professor. After calling to the University of Bonn and to the Charité in Berlin, she followed in 2005 the call to the W3 professorship for General Pediatrics at the Hannover Medical School (MHH). In 2006 she became Medical Director of the MHH Center for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine.
