Dr Gerard O’Reilly is Head, International Programs at the National Trauma Research Institute and Consultant Emergency Physician and Head, International Programs at the Emergency and Trauma Centre, The Alfred. Currently, he is Chair of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) International Emergency Medicine Committee (IEMC), and a member of the WHO Global Alliance for the Care of the Injured (GACI) Trauma Registry Working Group. Dr O’Reilly has authored more than thirty peer-reviewed publications. His special areas of research interest are trauma registry development and data quality.

Dr O’Reilly has an extensive background in the development of emergency and trauma capacity development programs throughout the world, including in Sri Lanka, India, Myanmar and Vietnam. He has also previously worked with Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) in north Afghanistan and a Somali refugee camp in Kenya, and has participated in emergency responses in Timor Leste and post-tsunami Aceh.

Dr O’Reilly is leading the development of a Trauma Registry for the Australia India Trauma Systems Collaboration (AITSC), setting the groundwork for a National Registry. He is also leading Intervention 3 which is developing a structured Trauma Quality Improvement Program for all AITSC sites to assist and improve current trauma care and practices.
