Geraldo Lorenzi Filho PhD

Geraldo Lorenzi Filho graduated in Medicine in 1984 and finished his Residence in General Internal Medicine in 1986 and Respirology in 1988, all at the Sao Paulo Medical School at the University of São Paulo Brazil. He obtained his PhD degree in 1992 at the University of São Paulo when he studied mucociliary clearance.
Geraldo then changed interests undertaking Post-Doctoral training at the University of Toronto, where he studied Sleep Apnea and Cardiovascular Interaction under the supervision of Prof. Douglas Bradley (1996 to 1998). Upon returning to Brazil, Geraldo set up a Sleep Laboratory at the Heart Institute affiliated to the Faculty of Medicine at the University of São Paulo.
Geraldo is currently an Associate Professor and Director of the Sleep Laboratory, where the main area of research is Sleep Disordered Breathing and Cardiovascular Interactions. The Sleep Laboratory has investigated several aspects of the relationship between Sleep Disordered breathing and cardiovascular disease, including atherosclerosis and hypertension.
