Dr George Webster gained his medical qualifications at the Royal Free Hospital Medical School in 1991. After initial postgraduate medical training at the Royal Brompton, the Hammersmith Hospital and at the Whittington Hospitals, he entered specialist training in 1995. Clinical training in gastroenterology, hepatology and endoscopy followed in London at the Royal Free, Barts and The London, and the Middlesex hospitals, and in Sydney. Dr Webster later completed a research fellowship in the study of hepatitis B, and has ongoing research involvement in a number of areas, including autoimmune pancreatitis and advanced endoscopy.

He has published 40 medical papers, 15 expert reviews/chapters, and is co-author of the Oxford Handbook of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Dr Webster currently holds the post of Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at the University College London Hospitals (UCLH) NHS FoundationTrust, where he is the clinical lead in HPB medicine, and is an honorary senior lecturer at UCL. He is on the Endoscopy Committee of The British Society of Gastroenterology and was formerly on the committee of the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland. Dr Webster is director of the annual London Live Endoscopy Course.
