George Papatheodoridis MD, PhD

George Papatheodoridis, MD, PhD, is Professor in Medicine & Gastroenterology at the Medical School of National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and Director of the 1st Gastroenterology Department & Liver Transplantation Unit at the General Hospital of Athens “Laiko”, Greece. He is President of Hellenic Transplant Organization and Hellenic Foundation of Gastroenterology & Nutrition, as well as President-elect of Hellenic Society of Gastroenterology, National Representative in European Committee on Organ Transplantation, Educational Councillor of European Association for the Study of Liver (EASL), and a fellow member of American Association for the Study of Liver (AASLD).

He served as member of EASL Scientific Committee/Governing Board (2010-2013), Steering Committee member of AASLD Hepatitis B Special Interest Group (2019 - 2022), General Assembly member of European United Gastroenterology Federation (2011 - 2014), Founding Full Member (2009 - 2022) and Treasurer (2016-2022) of Hepatitis B & C Public Policy Association and Chief Medical Officer of General Hospital of Athens “Laiko” (2021-2024). He received the EASL Recognition Award 2023 and numerous other awards at national/international levels. He was co-ordinator (2012) and panelist (2017) of EASL HBV Guidelines and EASL HDV Guidelines (2023). He is involved in translational and mostly clinical research of liver diseases, mainly focusing on viral hepatitis and especially hepatitis B.

George Papatheodoridis has (co-)authored >450 PubMed papers having a total IF >5800 and >31000/51000 citations (h-index: 79/98) in Scopus/Google Scholar. He was Associate Editor of Liver International and World Journal of Gastroenterology and has served as Editorial Board member of several journals and as reviewer for all gastroenterology/hepatology & many major internal medicine journals, EASL-UEGW-AASLD abstracts, EU 7th Framework Programme for Research and Horizon 2020. He has given >190 lectures, chaired >65 lectures/round tables, and presented >380 abstracts in international meetings.
