Dr. Georgios Belitsis, MD, is working as Honorary Associate Professor at the University College London. He studied medicine at Semmelweis University in Budapest, Hungary. He published three textbooks on surgical anatomy before graduation and was the first non-Hungarian resident to join the Semmelweis University heart transplant unit in 2009.

He joined the Royal Brompton and Harefield Trust (RBHT), in 2010 as a cardiothoracic Fellow and from 2011 onwards worked as a Senior Fellow in the Congenital Heart Surgery Service (neonatal and adult congenital), the aortic surgery department, and in cardiothoracic transplantation and mechanical circulatory support. 

His clinical interests lay in the complex reconstructions of the LVOT-Aortic root (Konno, Ross Konno, Nikaidoh procedure), surgery for endocardial cushion defects, and small AV connections. George Belitsis’ main interest is in education and he instructs regularly in surgical anatomy and pathology at the RCS, London. He is responsible for the congenital surgery teaching for registrars in the RBHT and organizes several wet labs in the Trust's skills lab.

His research interests involve the development of surgical techniques for neonates and adults with pulmonary hypertension as a stage of corrective surgery or cardiopulmonary transplantation; the development of surgical techniques for small-size AV and VA connections.
