Geert H. Groeneveld PhD

Dr. Geert H. Groeneveld works as an internist-infectiologist. He mainly performs his clinical activities in the emergency department and the acute admission ward.

His scientific Ph.D. research focuses in particular on respiratory infections in various patient groups. Together with the RIVM and the GGDs, he conducts research into surveillance methods and outbreak detection. In the hospital, he is conducting an intervention study into the inflammatory response to various antibiotics for pneumonia. In collaboration with the intensive care unit, he investigates whether cardiac surgery during the flu season worsens patient outcomes and in primary care patients he investigates whether biomarkers in patients with an acute respiratory infection can predict the existence of a serious infection.
