Dr. Gaurav Sharma has been a DST-INSPIRE Faculty Scientist at the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB), Bengaluru since August 2019. Earlier, he was awarded a Ph.D. degree in Microbial Genomics from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, while working with Dr. Srikrishna Subramanian at the Institute of Microbial Technology (IMTECH), a renowned CSIR institute in Chandigarh, India. Later, he worked with Prof. Mitchell Singer for almost three years as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics, University of California, Davis.
His lab's broad focus is on microbial genomics, transcriptomics, and evolution to understand the physiology of a few model organisms, such as Myxobacteria and Vibrio. His lab is also interested in understanding the plant-microbe interactions within medicinal plants using high-throughput microbiome approaches. For the last two years, his lab has also been involved in SARS-CoV-2 genomics and evolution.
