Gary S. Rubin BVSc, MBBS, PhD, MD, FRACP, FACC, FSCAI, FAHA, FSVMB, FISES

Dr. Gary Roubin is an internationally renowned interventional cardiologist recognized for his extraordinary leadership in the field of cardiovascular intervention. He is also a key contributor to the CREST trial which has validated the use of carotid stents for the treatment of carotid artery stenosis. He performed groundbreaking work in the development of the first FDA-approved coronary stent, the Gianturco-Roubini Flex Stent. He is an active clinician and continues to perform complex procedures and serves in the role of Medical Director of Cardiovascular Associates of the Subsection Chief of Cardiology at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center.

He has edited 20 major textbooks on Interventional Cardiology and written an important historical documentary, "The First Balloon-Expandable Coronary Stent: An Expedition that Changed Cardiovascular Medicine." Dr. Roubin has also published more than 240 papers and 225 abstracts in peer review journals. He lectures extensively in the United States and abroad and has received numerous awards for his notable contributions to cardiac care.

He continues to be a popular speaker at international cardiovascular meetings. Dr. Roubin’s broad experience as a physician-scientist, acclaimed inventor, clinical teacher, and mentor to countless physicians, has helped shape cardiology practice throughout the world.

Dr. Roubin earned his medical degree at the University of Queensland, Australia. He completed his residency at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and his fellowship at Hallstrom Institute of Cardiology in Sydney. He holds a Ph.D. in cardiovascular physiology from Sydney University Hospital. Dr. Roubin has served in numerous leadership roles throughout his career including Chair of Interventional Cardiac & Vascular Services at Lenox Hill in New York City for nearly a decade. He also served on faculty at Emory University School of Medicine and the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine.

He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians, the Council on Clinical Cardiology of the American Heart Association, the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Intervention, the Society for Vascular Medicine and Biology, the International Society of Endovascular Specialists, Society of Interventional Radiology and the International Society for Vascular Surgery.
