Gary Pheiffer PhD

Gary joined Heriot-Watt in September 2022, after working for five years at the University of Hertfordshire as Principal Lecturer in HRM and course leader for all HRM PG programs. Before this, he was a Principal Lecturer in the area of Occupational Psychology course leader for MSc Occupational Psychology, and Prof Doc in Occupational Psychology programs at London Metropolitan University. He is a registered Occupational Psychologist with the HCPC and BPS and holds a Chartered CIPD (HRM) membership of the CIPD and Fellow HEA. His doctoral studies were on adult attachment and its influence in the workplace. He enjoys teaching and developing motivated thinking employable students.  He is part of an ongoing research project into student learning experiences with an international team of researchers. Before joining academia, Gary worked in banking and the engineering industry as an HR manager and Psychologist. He is also an external examiner at UCL and the University of Arts (London) and holds an associate visiting lecturer position at the Catholic University of Milan, Italy in the Psychology Department.
