Dr. Gary Abrams is an expert in neurology and director of the Neurorehabilitation Program at UCSF Medical Center. He specializes in treating conditions associated with chronic disorders or injuries to the nervous system. He is especially interested in the late effects of stroke and traumatic brain injury and conducts research on novel methods of cognitive rehabilitation. Abrams received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh and his training in neurology at the Neurological Institute of New York at Columbia University. He was a member of the neurology faculty at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and served as medical director of the Helen Hayes Hospital. He also serves as a rehabilitation section chief at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
