Dr. Gary Crosthwaite is a specialist Upper GI surgeon at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and is Head of General Surgery and Gastroenterology at Epworth Healthcare. As well as being a Senior Fellow in the Melbourne University Department of Surgery he is a board member of ANZGOSA and is the Chair of Training. He has a long interest in minimally invasive surgery and has been involved in its development throughout his career. During this period he has also developed an interest in motility disorders and their management and he performed the first POEM for achalasia in Australia in 2013.
