Gail Prins is director of the andrology laboratory and professor of urology and physiology in the UIC College of Medicine. Her research focuses on the hormonal regulation of prostate gland development and prostate cancer. Prins has done groundbreaking studies on the connection between prostate cancer and bisphenol-A, or BPA, a common plastic additive found in thousands of consumer products. Her work provided the first direct evidence that early exposure to this hormone-disrupting chemical increases the risk of prostate cancer later in life. In 2014, she received the Distinguished Andrologist Award from the American Society of Andrology for her contributions to the field of male physiology and health.

She has published more than 160 research papers and is funded by multiple grants from the National Institutes of Health. She has served on several NIH study sections and advisory committees and the integration panel for the Department of Defense prostate cancer research program. A past president of the American Society of Andrology, Prins is an editor of Endocrinology, associate editor of Andrology, and an editorial board member of Prostate and Reproductive Toxicology.
