Gabriel Tajeu DrPH, MPH

Dr. Gabriel S. Tajeu received his doctorate in public health with a concentration in outcomes and econometrics research from the Department of Health Care Organization and Policy at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Dr. Tajeu then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in hypertension and cardiovascular disease (CVD) epidemiology in the Department of Medicine and Department of Epidemiology at UAB.

His research focuses on hypertension and CVD outcomes, disparities, costs, and quality of care at the population and health systems level. He is also interested in the cost-effectiveness of antihypertensive medication and statins and has researched antihypertensive medication adherence. Dr. Tajeu utilizes secondary datasets (including Medicare, American Hospital Association Survey, and Hospital Compare, as well as cohort data from the Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke study, the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis, and the Jackson Heart Study) in his research. He has also engaged in the collection of primary data on implicit and explicit racial bias among healthcare workers and participated in the development of an intervention to decrease perceived discrimination and improve patient satisfaction in primary care clinics in Alabama.
