After studying medicine in Budapest at Semmelweis University and Freiburg in Germany at Albert Ludwig University, Dr Veres graduated summa cum laude in 1994. He completed a specialization in pediatric medicine in 2000 and gastroenterology in 2002.

He earned his PhD in 2004 for his research work carried out in Helsinki (on celiac disease, food allergies and immunological analysis of infectious bowel diseases). He has also received the title of Doctor of Science (Dsc) from the Hungarian Academy of Science (MTA) for work in the same area. He has been the president of the Hungarian Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology since 2013 and a member of the European Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology since 2014.

Since 1994 he has worked in the First Department of Pediatrics at Semmelweis University, becoming the deputy director and the department director of the gastroenterology department in October 2013. Dr Veres primarily works in the clinic as a gastroenterologist with children who suffer from reflux, wind, stomach aches, loss of appetite/weight, constipation, diarrhea, jaundice/liver disease, allergies, lactose intolerance and celiac disease. His main area of expertise is infant and child endoscopy (examinations of the throat, stomach, large and small intestines).
