Frederic Bouder

Frederic Bouder is Assistant Professor in the Department of Technology and Society Studies (since 2009). There, as well as in his former capacity of Research Associate at King’s College London (2003-2009) he has developed policy oriented research on risk communication and risk regulation, with a strong transatlantic and comparative dimension. His research interests concentrate primarily on developing innovative models of risk regulation and communication. He has been particularly interested in the crucial concepts of acceptability and tolerability in the context of decisions that fall into the grey zone of activities linked to clear benefits but where the risks are not negligible.

In 2007, he was the lead editor of a book looking at these issues from theoretical as well as policy perspectives (Bouder, F, Slavin, D. and Löfstedt, R.E. (Eds.) (2007) The Tolerability of Risk: a New Framework for Risk Management, London and Sterling (VA): Earthscan). Frederic Bouder has worked primarily on pharmaceutical issues, occupational safety, chemical, nuclear risks, regulatory reform and Sustainable Development.
