Dr. Zepp is Medical Director and chairman of the Children’s Hospital, Johannes Gutenberg-University, Mainz, Germany. In 1998 he has founded the Center for Preventive Pediatrics at the University Hospital with specialists in pediatric immunology, microbiology, infectious diseases, molecular biology and epidemiology, focusing on host response to infectious diseases and prevention by use of vaccines.
His main field of interest is cell mediated immunity following infections with a special focus on pertussis /pertussis vaccination, RSV and PIV. Dr. Zepp has initiated and organized multiple clinical trials. His research group is working in close collaboration with the NIH and infectious diseases departments in Europe, the US and South-East-Asia. Since 2002 he is chairman of the German Pediatric Network (PAED-Net, supported by the German BMBF), which focuses on the development of an infrastructure for clinical trials in the pediatric population as well as chairman of the Coordinating Center for Clinical Trials (KKS) at the Johannes Gutenberg University. Since 1998 he is member of the German Vaccination Board (STIKO) in Berlin.
