Dr. Fred Tabung, PhD, MSPH, is an assistant professor in the Division of Medical Oncology, Department of Internal Medicine at The Ohio State University. He is a member of the Molecular Carcinogenesis and Chemoprevention Program at the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center – James, where his research focuses on the role of diet and lifestyle in cancer risk and survival, specifically among patients with gastrointestinal cancers.
He is interested in integrating novel dietary patterns, biomarkers (of inflammation and insulin response) and metabolomics and microbiome data to comprehensively investigate and identify potential biological pathways linking dietary patterns and cancer outcomes. The major goal is to identify novel biomarkers for cancer prevention and treatment.
His research integrates large-scale observational studies with biomarker-based randomized clinical trials to identify novel dietary, metabolomics and gut microbiome-based strategies for cancer prevention and treatment. His research has also examined the role of diet and the host immune system in relation to tumor characteristics in colorectal cancer development and survival.
