Dr. Frank Smart is Chief of the Section of Cardiology and Professor of Medicine at LSU School of Medicine. With more than 20 years’ experience as a researcher and clinician, Smart has served as principal investigator in many clinical cardiac trials and has published numerous articles, book chapters, and scientific abstracts on the topics of congestive heart failure and heart transplantation. He sits on the editorial boards of leading professional journals, such as Cardiology Today, Congestive Heart Failure, and The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation. He is active in many professional societies, including the American College of Cardiology and the American College of Physicians.

Before coming to LSU, Dr. Smart served as Chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine and Medical Director of the Heart Failure and Cardiomyopathy Program for Atlantic Health System. Highly respected in academic medicine, his previous appointments include Assistant Professor at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, Professor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, Professor of Medicine Tulane University School of Medicine, and Associate Professor of Medicine at LSU School of Medicine.
