Dr. Frank Roemer is a musculoskeletal radiologist with a strong focus on MRI. He currently holds academic appointments as an Adjunct Professor at Boston University School of Medicine and as Professor of Radiology at the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany. He is an Attending Radiologist and Chief Section of Musculoskeletal Research at the Department of Radiology, University of Erlangen-Nuremberg & Universitätsklinikum Erlangen. He completed his medical degree at the Ludwigs Maximilian University, Munich, and received scholarships as post-doctoral research fellow at the Osteoporosis and Arthritis Research Group, Dept. of Radiology, UCSF in 2002/2003 and as Associate Professor in Research at Boston University in 2007/2008.
Dr. Frank's main research interest is imaging of degenerative joint disease and sports imaging as well as novel imaging applications in pre-clinical research. He has been Co-Director of the Quantitative Imaging Center of the Department of Radiology at Boston University since 2008. He is a member of the Radiologic Society of North America, the European Society of Radiology, the International Skeletal Society, the International Cartilage Repair Society, the Osteoarthritis Research Society International, the German Society of Radiology and the German Society of Musculoskeletal Radiology. He is a Board Member of the International Society of Osteoarthritis Imaging.
Dr Roemer is Chief Medical Officer and Director of Research at Boston Imaging Core Lab, LLC, a company providing radiologic image assessment services to academia and the pharmaceutical industry. Dr Roemer is an internationally recognized scientist with > 390 peer-reviewed publications on imaging in musculoskeletal disease. Dr. Roemer is Editor-in-Chief of the journal "Osteoarthritis Imaging". He is the Associate Editor of “Osteoarthritis Cartilage” and is a member of the Editorial Board of “European Radiology”. He is working in close collaboration with multiple leading scientific institutions worldwide focusing on osteoarthritis and MSK and sports imaging including UCSF, Harvard University, Lund University, PMU Salzburg, University of Sydney, ASPETAR, Qatar, and several others. He regularly lectures internationally including invitations to the RSNA, the ECR, OARSI, and other scientific organizations.
