Frank L. Urbano MD, MBA, FACP, CHIE

Dr. Frank Urbano is senior medical director for AmeriHealth New Jersey. He is responsible for working with the provider network physicians to ensure the effectiveness of medical and utilization management activities, quality management programs, pharmacy management, and medical policy for New Jersey. Dr. Urbano also supports physician recruitment and retention activities and strengthens relationships with the medical community across New Jersey.

Throughout his career, Dr. Urbano has been dedicated to improving care coordination. Before joining AmeriHealth New Jersey, he was the medical director of care management for the Einstein Healthcare Network, where worked to bring high-quality, cost-effective care to an underserved urban community. Prior to that, he was the medical director of care coordination at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ.

Dr. Urbano received his undergraduate degree in Biology from Rutgers University and his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed his residency training at Thomas Jefferson University, where he served as chief resident in internal medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine. Dr. Urbano also holds an MBA with a concentration in healthcare management from Widener University. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Association for Physician Leadership and the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy. Dr. Urbano has spoken extensively across the country on a number of topics related to case management, healthcare delivery, medical management, and healthcare policy.
