Frank Vermassen MD, PhD

Prof. Frank Vermassen graduated in 1984 as a doctor from the University of Ghent and specialized in general, thoracic, and cardiovascular surgery. In 1991 Prof. Vermassen started his career at UZ Gent as a staff member at the Thoracic and Vascular Surgery Department. He became Head of Department in 2001 and Chairman of the Metabolic and Cardiovascular Diseases Sector in 2011.

Prof. Vermassen was appointed professor at Ghent University in 2004. He is the author of more than 200 scientific publications and collaborated on more than 60 studies (phases 1 to 4) in the fields of thoracic surgery, vascular disease, medical and surgical treatment of peripheral arterial disease, and the evaluation of new materials and techniques in vascular surgery.
