Dr. Macedo is a Surgical Oncologist and the Chief of Surgical Oncology at HCA Florida North Florida Hospital. He became a surgical oncologist at the University of Miami School of Medicine in 2019. Prior to obtaining this role, he was a general surgery resident at the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine from 2012 to 2017. Dr. Macedo began his career as a medical student at the University of Pernambuco, Brazil, where he obtained his medical degree. He then relocated to the United States to start surgical training.

A prolific researcher and educator, Dr. Macedo has over 70 internationally recognized peer-reviewed publications in world-class journals. Among these, he is the first author and principal investigator in most publications. He has presented over 80 studies at academic world-renowned national and international conferences.

Dr. Macedo's clinical practice is in Surgical Oncology with a focus on GI malignancies including hepatobiliary, pancreatic, and gastroesophageal cancers. Dr. Macedo also provides cutting-edge care to patients with melanoma, sarcoma, and thyroid cancer. As a surgical oncologist, I have had the opportunity to follow patients long-term and develop meaningful relationships with them and their families over time" – opportunities, he says, that drew him to the field.

He has independently performed several robotic procedures and is credentialed to perform highly complex robotic surgery at any hospital in the United States. Dr. Macedo is affiliated with a number of professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, and the Society of Surgical Oncology, and is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.

Inspired by his family, Dr. Macedo pursued a career in medicine due to their influence. Both of his parents are cardiologists, and his three older siblings are all physicians. Dr. Macedo has been married to his wife, Juliane, and they have one child – Catarina. Looking toward the future, he is eager to provide world-class and personalized clinical care to patients with cancer in North Florida and beyond.
