Dr. Valencia is a native of southern Arizona, having been born and raised in Nogales, Arizona. He received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University and his medical degree from the University of California, San Diego. After completing his orthopedic training, he completed a fellowship in Pediatric Orthopedics at the UCSD/San Diego Children’s Hospital. He was originally board certified in 1993 and has since been recertified in 2003 and 2012. He is a member of the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America, The American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and AAOS.

Dr. Valencia is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Arizona. He works with medical students and orthopedic residents. Dr. Valencia has been honored by the College of Medicine for teaching excellence, The Dean’s Teaching Award, and the CUP Distinguished Facility Member Award. He has also been honored by the Nation Football League Community Quarterback Award, and the Martin Luther King Civil Rights Award for community services for his volunteer work with the St. Andrews Children’s Clinic. Dr. Valencia has been volunteering at that clinic for almost 40 years, starting initially as an interpreter and now acting as a Senior Orthopedic Consultant.

Dr. Valencia’s orthopedic practice interests include congenital deformities of the upper and lower extremities, treatment of pediatric/adolescent fractures, athletic injuries and long term management of neuromuscular condition, such as muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy and myelomeningocele.
