Dr. Francesco Guerrera is a qualified Thoracic Surgeon who works at Turin University Hospital, in Turin (Italy). He received his MD Degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Torino in Turin (Italy) and completed his Thoracic Surgery Residency at the University of Torino in Turin (Italy). He received his PhD Degree in Bioengineering and Medical-Surgical Sciences at Politecnico di Torino and the University of Torino, in Turin (Italy). He is also a researcher for AIRC The Italian Foundation for Cancer Research (Fondazione AIRC per la Ricerca sul Cancro) since 2020.
He was a clinical fellow at the Thoracic Surgery Department of the Strasbourg University Hospital in Strasbourg, France. From 2021, he is a Member of the Staging and Prognostic Factors Committee for the Thymic Domain of the IASLC (The International Association for the Study of Lung - TNM)
In 2016, he was awarded with the European Young Investigator Award for the best research in the field of thoracic surgery presented during the 24th ESTS Annual Congress. The project was entitled: Epidermal growth factor receptor mutations are linked to skipping N2 lymph node metastasis in resected non-small-cell lung cancer adenocarcinomas.
In 2018, he was awarded with the Robert Ginsberg Lectureship Award for the best research in the field of surgery presented during the 18th World Conference on Lung Cancer. The project was entitled: Risk of Recurrence in Stage I Adenocarcinoma of the Lung: A Multi-Institutional Study on Interaction with Type of Surgery and Type of Nodal Staging.
He has published or co-authored over 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals, and he is also a reviewer of many scientific journals. His clinical and basic research focus is on non-intubated thoracic surgery, training in thoracic surgery, 3d and virtual reality, and NIR fluorescence imaging.
