Francesca is currently holding an Associate Professor position at the Food and Drug Department of the University of Parma. She is leading the unit dedicated to the development of products for inhalation as Head of the team and associated Research programs. In 2014 she was appointed as Visiting Lecturer in the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science of King’s College London. In 2016 she was affiliated as a Key Researcher at the Research Center Pharmaceutical Engineering (Austria).

In 2003 she obtained an MSc in pharmacy at the School of Pharmacy of the University of Parma and in 2004 she got a Ph.D. research fellowship from Chiesi Farmaceutici S.p.A focused on the investigation of DPI combined formulation. During the same period, the European Socrates Programme funded her a period of research at the King’s College London under the supervision of Prof. C. Marriott. She got her Ph.D. title in 2007 in Parma (Italy) in Biopharmaceutics-Pharmacokinetics.

Actually, she works on the development of pulmonary products like solutions for nebulization and metered-dose inhalers, but her main research area is the formulation of dry powder inhalers. She is an expert on particle engineering, dissolution test of microparticles, and characterization of carrier-based formulations. Up to date, she has published 45 original papers, 5 book chapters, and 4 patents on drugs and drug delivery systems. Since 2007 she received > 15 invitations to lecture at national and international conferences. She presented his research in more than 86 conferences and scientific meetings.
