Frances Glascoe spent 10 years teaching special education in the public school before joining the Department of Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University where she directed the rotation in developmental pediatrics and served as an educational specialist on the neuropsychology, school performance, autism, and developmental diagnostic teams. Her research focuses on the accuracy of developmental and behavioral screening measures and she is the author of more than 100 journal articles and chapters. A summary of these studies is housed in the American Academy of Pediatrics, Section on Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. Dr. Glascoe is the author of several screening tests including Parents' Evaluation of Developmental Status (PEDS) a very brief surveillance and decision-support tool on developmental and behavioral needs for children 0 to 8, the Brigance Infant and Toddler Screens, and the Safety Word Inventory and Literacy Screener (SWILS). She presents frequently at meetings of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Ambulatory Pediatric Association. For eight years, Dr. Glascoe edited Ambulatory Child Health: The Journal of General and Community Pediatrics and is currently on the editorial board of Archives in Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine. She edits the Clinical Toolbox Section for the Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics and is the newsletter editor for the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics. In October 2000, she received the Dale Richmond Award for contributions to child development from the American Academy of Pediatrics.
