Flavio Malcher MD, MSc

Dr. Flavio Malcher is a distinguished surgeon specializing in abdominal wall surgery, hernia repair, and abdominal core health. He serves as Chief of Abdominal Core Health for Northwell Health and Director of Abdominal Wall and General Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. He is also a Professor of Surgery at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.

Dr. Malcher earned his medical degree and completed his surgical training at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. He subsequently completed fellowship training in minimally invasive and robotic surgery at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro and the Crispi Institute, earning a Master of Science in Minimally Invasive Surgery in 2016. Before relocating to the United States, he served on the faculty of the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro.

His clinical expertise includes complex abdominal wall reconstruction, minimally invasive and robotic hernia repair, and the management of recurrent and complicated hernias. Dr. Malcher is actively involved in surgical research and medical education, having authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters and delivered presentations at national and international scientific meetings. He has contributed to advancing evidence-based surgical techniques and improving patient outcomes in abdominal core health. He is also involved in professional leadership through the Abdominal Core Health Quality Collaborative and the American Hernia Society.
