Firouz Asgarzadeh, Ph.D. is Vice President of Pharmaceutics at BioDuro. Dr. Asgarzadeh has over 20 years of global R&D experience in pharmaceutical formulation development, controlled release coating, solubility enhancement (Melt Extrusion and Spray-Drying), oral/injectable dosage product development, polymer synthesis, and polymer processing Prior to joining BioDuro, he was Director of Technical Services, North America at Evonik for over 10 years, establishing laboratories and leading controlled release formulation and application teams. He also managed university relationships and organized seminars and webinars attended by thousands of scientists, students, and managers. He was Principal Scientist at Merck (Schering-Plough) and Senior Scientist at Catalent Pharma Solutions (Cardinal Health) where he developed several early and late-stage oral solid and lipid products focusing his research on solubility enhancement technology platforms inducing self (micro) emulsifying drug delivery systems (S(M)EDDS) and amorphous solid dispersions (pharmaceutical melt extrusion and spray-drying). Dr. Asgarzadeh is the current co-chair of the QbD focus group at AAPS and was the past Chair for Contract Research Organization (CRO) focus group and past chair for Excipient Focus Group (EFG). Dr. Asgarzadeh earned his Ph.D. in Polymeric Materials and Composites from Université Claude Bernard (Lyon I), France in 1999. He also has a master's degree in Physical Chemistry of Molecular and Macromolecular Materials from Université Louis Pasteur (Strasbourg I), France, and Polymer Engineering from Polytechnic University, Tehran, Iran.
